Notes

Climb and Speed averaged over 4 second intervals.

These values may be lower than those shown by a flight instrument, which has access to continuous raw data.

Red values indicate suspect data, because the tracklog contains invalid points.

Metric units are used for all chart data, except for Height which is shown in feet.

Average Speed around course is measured from Start to Finish points.

Track Length is the cumulative distance between track points from Takeoff to Landing.

I was delayed by the electrician so arrived on Bell at 1pm but things looked good with 3 or 4 pilots enjoying the thermic conditions thousands of feet above the hill. Several others were prepared for light wind launches to try and catch a thermal in the unsoarable conditions.

Several sweaty hikes up the hill later I was feeling despondent that I'd missed the window of opportunity but I spotted Fritz doing well over Ibberton so took a leap of faith and headed there. Somwhat surprisingly I connected with a good climb and stuck with it to base at around 3000ft before setting off on a glide towards Pimperne. There was a lot of top cover which got thicker and greyer as the flight went on and very pathetic looking Cu but every one had a working thermal under it. 40km clocked up and I was chuffed but thought I still had height to maybe get to 50km. Every glide had a thermal at the end of it and the flight just kept going. I constantly had to push North to get around Southampton airspace until I reached Sutton Scotney where I took a turn directly downwind to see how far I could glide.

At 85km I was down to 1500ft. The upper sky was fully overcast and quite dark. I headed for a pathetic isolated Cu which really didn't look promising but was rewarded with a strong climb back up to 2800. My Oudie shows the airspace and I didn't want to lose the flight in the 2500ft limit of Farnborough. It showed something like 1km from airspace at 99km from take off. I turned further south to try and reach the 4500ft space and just snuck in 101km open distance. Well satisfied. I phoned Andrea who'd tracked me by my ADSB transponder and was already near Alton. Arrived home at 8:45 for a well earned beer.
