Notes

Climb and Speed averaged over 4 second intervals.

These values may be lower than those shown by a flight instrument, which has access to continuous raw data.

Average Speed around course is measured from Start to Finish points.

Track Length is the cumulative distance between track points from Takeoff to Landing.

You can change the default units displayed - see the Options page.

The first big day of the season, and it's Easter Saturday - huge numbers were expected at Milk Hill White Horse, and huge numbers duly turned up! Several of us used the Wiltshire Connect bookable bus service to get to the Pewsey Downs car park, but it was still massively overflowing.

Plenty were flying when I arrived, but it looked hard to get high. A big gaggle eventually got away, but it was too strong for most of us to launch, and a couple of pilots came close to being blown into the bushes. But another bunch got away, with Steve Newcombe elegantly climbing to the top of that stack.

It eased a bit - not a lot - and I got not so elegantly into the air, but I was able to push forward towards a wing going steadily up, and soon found myself climbing steadily out. By the time I was fully committed, only a green Swing was near me. I turned back as it seemed to be going up faster, but we kept finding our own cores a little way from each other (or perhaps we were missing the actual core)

I found a second climb near Winterbourne Monkton, but it never turned into much more than a zero. The Swing went down before Wootton Bassett, and I couldn't get across the big blue hole over the town. I think a couple more landed near the Swing, and a blue Ozone went over my head as I packed up, having cleverly found a dry bit of ground to land on.

I got the bus to Swindon station, where I had a coffee with Steve Newcombe and Dr Ali, who was buzzing over his new PB. Then we shared a taxi back to the hill, and Steve gave me a lift home.

No big distance today, but I was glad to get anything out of what I feared might have turned into a blown-out day.
