Climb and Speed averaged over 4 second intervals.

These values may be lower than those shown by a flight instrument, which has access to continuous raw data.

Average Speed around course is measured from Start to Finish points.

Track Length is the cumulative distance between track points from Takeoff to Landing.

Went to Cox Tor with not very high expectations. It was very overcast so sat in the car as drizzle came down. After an hour it started to brighten up so we walked up… Bits of sun were peaking through so we decided to give it a go… It was strong wind when the thermals came through, not crazy but sometimes it was difficult to push off the edge of the hill.

Unfortunately Cox Tor is not very steep so there's not much lift without thermals… I managed to catch a thermal and decided to take it over the back following Carl. Unfortunately I lost it too low to get back and tried to follow Carl back to the hill on his higher rated glider into wind and ended up at the side of the hill landing backwards while Carl effortlessly flew overhead. It was early afternoon so I thought I had enough time for one more go…

The sun was shining a lot more this time and after a few more beats scratching I caught another thermal but this time went straight to cloudbase. There were 2 other gliders with me higher and faster so they went off first zooming towards the next climb… Unfortunately they didn't catch another thermal so I thought I would just sit under the black cloud and drift for a while. A couple of times the beast started to suck me in but managed to stay near enough to the edge to escape its wispy clutches. I finally decided to fly off and came very low convinced I was about to land.

I found my landing field and started to turn towards it when small bubbles of lift started to push me back upwards… I started to turn and was rewarded with another nice climb… I went over the next hill and again was coming down towards my landing field… Unfortunately this next thermal wasn't quite as friendly and gave me a nice rock n roll after which I had to bleep out a few words on my gopro but no collapses luckily and took me straight back to cloudbase.

The rest of the flight was a nice and smooth sky and as I started to fly over Newton Abbot I spotted a lovely big landing field and headed towards it. Unfortunately as I got closer I realised it was Newton Abbot racecourse. I thought if there was a race on I might get away with saying I was a just stop oil protestor but then thought against it. So not sure whether I'd be in a heap of trouble for landing there I headed left over the dual carriageway which had less landing options…

Lots of landing fields below but as I got closer most of them had big power lines over them. I found a clear field which looked great from the air but as I got closer I realised it was in crop. I decided to land as close to the path as possible so I didn't walk through his crops. My longest xc to date, the landing was fine and the farmer didn't shoot me so all in all a lovely day… 😁
