The day looked great! Beautiful clouds, birds thermalling, and a relaxed mood on the hill. Arrived at around 10:30 joining a surprisingly small group of 4, but by 11 that number had grown to 15 ish. All talk was of triangles and most settled on a 70k heading NNW toward Orleton then east to Wychhold.
By the time the first of us were ready to go the town was in shadow. So we waited. After an hour or so those itching to fly took exploratory hops testing the air. Ben had a go as did Richard, but never out of range for a top landing.
Tali was the big hero, taking off and pushing out beyond the safe zone, fully committing! He was rewarded with what looked like a the makings of a climb, and this was enough for me to launch. Although the majority of people followed, it was Tal and I who were first to base in a steady 1.5 m climb.
I set off north aiming at the first big cloud en route whilst Tal set off toward Worcester. Finding minimal thermal action I turned back as Ben D, Richard M and Steve W were in climbs behind me. First out of the blocks and already behind. From here Richard set off on his own whilst Ben and I tried chasing Steve.
Although Steve was a climb ahead, flying my Zeno 1 I was able to keep pace with him and Ben to the first turn point, but fell back when I got low. Tempted by a good looking climb over Worcester I opted to skip the second turn point and headed back to the ridge.
Landed on top then strolled back to the car 👍
