BCC comp from the Blorange SE face. High pressure day took a while to heat up and it was probably after 1pm by the time pilots started going up. I launched straight into a nice thermal but was soon back at ridge height. A few pilots headed towards Magic and got a slow second climb from there. A little bit further on between Magic and Llangorse ridge I hit a stonker of a thermal, vario screaming at me 5.5m/s but it felt smooth as butter. I think after this I hit over 5 grand and was pretty much alone, many pilots going to the south in the valley but I saw a sail plane in the distance thermalling over a small village next to some brown fields, sure enough this was working a treat. I think this slowly got me up to 4 grand or so just drifting with the wind. The sky was looking pretty hazy and the cues seemed very small dotted in the distance. Hundred House started to appear on the map and I knew there were train stations just beyond, knowing I wasn't going to make goal at the coast I opted to just stick with what ever lift there was and let the wind take me to a train station. I landed a few miles away but a friendly Welsh man called Ben and his daughter saw me land, both excited to see me land near their house wanted to know all about the sport of paragliding and after a posing for a photo with the little girl wearing my paragliding helmet, Ben offered me a lift to the station, perfect. What an awesome day it turned out to be, not epic conditions but a new adventure into Wales was defo worth the 2.5 hours drive from North Devon.
