A fairly early start and a long drive for a murky sky on arrival. Missed the first cycle having set up behind the others and then managed to spurn a perfectly good climb in the blind hope of finding a better one! Doh!
Luckily Richard Darling was watching from the bomb out field and kindly rushed me back to take-off for a re-alight attempt. The Eastern flats were all shaded out and there no birds at all. A group of young lads egged and bullied me to get in the air and after some tentative sparing in bubbles of hope for a few minutes I finally climbed out over the pass.
The rest of the flight was a case of dashing for sunny spots, taking languid lazy climbs until the dark skies threatened to engulf me and then running off to the next patch of sun - often zig-zagging around.
Finally my luck ran out at a bend in the Wye and I chose a huge village playing field to land and entertain some kids.
Glad to have resurrected a day that could have been grim!
