I'd taken the Queen 2 for if it was wet and muddy and the Photon in case the forecast came true and it turned into an XC opportunity. As soon as I took off on the Queen I knew it was good with climbs to 2000ft, very floaty and the opportunity to tag the farm pond waypoint in the Bell hill waypoint contest.

The day was too good to waste so after an hour I landed and swapped to the Photon. Soon after take off I spotted a Rook/Crow/Jackdaw (delete as appropriate), a red kite and a White tailed Sea Eagle thermalling over the buildings below the bowl so flew over to join them. We were soon joined from above by a second sea eagle and climbed out together. I left them to go on a glide towards Durweston around 2000ft but they didn't think the lesson was over yet. One had stuck with me and was surfing my leading edge about 50ft above me. Slightly intimidating. They're not called a flying barn door for nothing.

I managed to maintain as I appropched Durweston and Neil flew over to try and join me but he'd hit major sink and was about 1000ft below me. As he landed I found another climb. Very knarly, about 7 on the sphincter scale as were most of the following thermals.

I managed a low save from 800ft as I approached Verwood and topped out at 3200 crossing Fordingbridge on my way to my goal (made up in flight) of a pint at the Royal Oak in Fritham. One last climb over the WW2 bombing range (Very interresting) had me on finals for landing. Naturally I hit strong lift and had to fly around to find some sink to get into goal. I balloned up 50ft as I came into the field but mananged to get back on track and landed right next to the pub.

A man approached as I fiddled about taking off clothes and getting out the helmet bag. He was very friendly and told me it was his field. All was good and he used to do motocross near Blandford. When I got into the bar he, the owner, kindly bought me a pint.

I spent a very pleasant 30 minutes in the pub garden chatting with a former soldier about getting his parachute wings in Texel in the Netherlands and about his adventures wild camping in the forest with his nephew and mate from the RAF who'd worked on helicopters.

Andrea arrived spot on the ETA at 3:20 and we enjoyed an ice cream from the van at the Fighting Cocks as we passed on the way home.

Very pleasant day out.
