_First bit_.
Sea breeze close. Fairly strong wind WNW occasionally WSW. Managed to get away as the sea breeze front came through. Headed north east fully expecting everyone to follow. Oh well, looks like it'll be a gaggle of one.
_Middle bit_.
Base progressed from 3,000' to 5,000' during the flight. Some fairly towering cumulus around. The goal was set at Ashford but became increasingly clear that wasn't going to happen - wind was getting too strong and too cross. One of these days I will make an XC goal, but it won't be this day. A fair amount of wind-blown thermals but the stronger cores stayed intact and I got some really good climbs. Flew directly over father-in-law's house in Heathfield. Thought I would be knocking on their door shortly afterwards but managed a low save at about 700' above the ground.
_End bit_.
Coming towards Folkestone I could clearly see France in the distance. By the looks of the clouds it was a nice XC day over there as well. The ILS feather from Lydd was making my Oudie bark "AIRSPACE! " at me a lot and I almost missed the danger area just to the south but the noise of rifles firing in quick succession got my attention and I could clearly see armed forces personnel firing at targets. Whoops! I think I'll turn north and land just here thanks. A few tip collapses on approach kept the heart rate high.
_Retrieve bit_.
Easy peasy. I was actually hoping for more of a walk but all the buses and trains coincided very nicely. Walk to Hythe, bus to Folkestone, trains to Ashford, Eastbourne & Brighton, bus back to the Dyke. What a lovely day out.
