The Swanson-Low Show.
On the weekend of the X-scotia hike and fly event, Scotland shows it's best with yet another day of sun and soaring. It's been such a good spell of weather that the XC league leaders have camped out in the highlands and are slugging it out day after day after day. Today goes to Dougie at time of writing. Richard Meek, Jake Herbert and Jules having dined high on the hog in previous days.
Creag Meagaidh is the venue today. Great turnout, top pilots and a fantastic sky from early on. It's clearly working and I'm one of the first off. To the car park. Ooops! Very nearly went down. I was joined by Jules and we managed to scrounge a climbout. Not particularly convincing. Anyhoo, we're off and circuit flights planned for most folks. A gaggle of around half a dozen made pretty slow progress towards Aviemore. Conditions were pretty good, some nice strong climbs but not in an epic ground covering sort of way.
Can't complain about 6 hours of flying in Scotland over truly stunning scenery, but circuit flights aren't really my thing. I like the idea of flying as far from my car as I can and the adventure of getting home. That said, I flew in the company of Jules and Steven Halsworth. Fine time it was too. PB for Steven I think. Not too shoddy at all.
Flew directly over the Polar bear and Tiger enclosures of the Scottish Wildlife park. Fifth time this spring that I've flown within sniffing distance of them. I wonder if they are waiting for me to drop in. It would be a thought provoking descent under a reserve. As it happens, some of the air today was quite chunky over Kingussie😯
