Well odd sort of day and most unexpected result. Actually I wasn't going to fly today but took my gear just in case. After a good site brief from a local pilot and a gentle reminder that I had a retrieve driver from Steve Watts, I gave it a try and managed to get out of the bowl and over the back to my surprise. Didn't fancy any other options to be fair the site is not for the faint hearted. The day was almost completely blue, in fact the one cloud I did eventually meet gave me a shock as it appeared in my vision as quick as it disappeared. There were some strong thermals on the way but mostly slow climbs to top up and keep as high as possible. It was great to see a different part of the country from above. All in all an uneventful flight but very enjoyable. I did share the start with another pilot on the slow climb out but we lost touch sadly on one of the glides after Matlock. The landing was a bit of a surprise to be honest as there were loads of brown fields around that had been delivering all flight and I even went over an almost completely black quarry in front of the Wrekin but didn't get any lift I could use sadly. Thanks to Steve Watts and Gary Holtby for the retrieve.
