Forecast was for a 5 star day on Dartmoor, albeit starting from 14:00 and finishing at 18:00 We arrived their early in the hope there would be some wind for soaring. There wasn't. Pilots from neighboring clubs made the effort, perhaps they'd forgot what Dartmoor is like!

Too many slope landings and walks back up to remember but there was promise in he cycles now and again from 15:00. I followed a photon out towards the south end of the ridge, we maintained and found the beginning of some scrappy thermals, more joined but we struggled to find the core.

1by 1 they returned to the front as the lift moved onto the back, the extra height allowed me to search for lift, i stuck with a scrappy bubble averaging 0.5 until for 200 meters or so and it began to develop into something, Jon caught onto the bottom of the lift and we scratched our way out to 3600.

Found 2 more climbs, which got us to post bridge, Jon was lower and it looked like he was setting up to land, i found a nothing, with the occasional blip and started a long and slow climb out.

Meanwhile Jon had found a rocket, he pushed out towards the river on his final approach and connected with a 3 up, i moved in under him once it became clear my nothing was going to remain a nothing, the lift took us to 1700 meter, higher than the surrounding clouds.

As this point i realised that my declared flight may be on, i headed north from powder works, Jon had no idea why i was heading into sink and wind and continued to prince town. My first turn point was in 2/3 into the moor. The convergence saved the flight and i was able to make slow progress, return leg along the convergence and back to two bridges was uneventful but spectacular views.

More cloud half ay back to King tor helped but left me with a 5 k glide, just scrapped in to the final waypoint and had just enough the height to get back to the top path. Landed at 18:15 with a 12 mph NE wind… What we needed 6 hours ago.
