Windy at Sharpenhoe as forecast with the sky to the west looking good, sky to the east didn't look so great so a quick start was required. After hopping two cloud streets to the north to avoid airspace we had a lovely street almost all the way to 100km. Unfortunately Andrew landed just before 100km and I could never quite catch up to Hugh even though he waited a few times!
Things slowed up after the street ended but there were well formed cumulus all around for the next 50km. Just before the goal Andrew had set in Wells a blue hole pushed us off course line to the south. Luckily a forming cumulus to the south worked well and the blue hole had disappeared by the time I was at base again. At this point I was finding it hard to get to base as the climbs at height felt sharp and broken.
I pushed cross wind to the north to grab the goal in Wells and then turned downwind to what I thought was Taunton. At about 185km I was floating in zeros for what felt like forever (it was only 10 minutes looking back) and resisting the temptation to leave and try for the 200km from about 900m. Luckily I found a great climb up to base, checked the map and realised I was over Bridgwater and not Taunton! It was then a relaxing glide to Taunton securing the 200km and giving plenty of time to pick a landing spot.
It may have been possible to continue on but the call of the train station and the loo were too much for me to pass on.
New PB and first 200km flight. Thanks to Andrew and Hugh for showing me the way!
