The wind was getting fairly strong on launch but we managed to dribble away from Caburn in a gaggle of 8 pilots, all working together and trying to make use of whatever lift we could. It was slow, hard going for quite a while (I think the first 10km took about an hour) but then the climbs began to get more consistent and with the wind being in an excellent direction we started making good time.
I think the maximum cloudbase was about 4,400' so we weren't bothered about airspace but there was a point where the wind was pushing us under the 3,500' airspace and I came within about 200' of busting it.
The gaggle stayed together remarkably well until Ashford and then by Canterbury it was just James C and me. It was amazing seeing the Thames estuary and the Isle of Sheppey come into view and then before I knew it James and I were bombing along the north Kent coast towards Margate. I shouted for joy when we passed 100km - finally! Unfortunately we didn't quite make goal in Margate but I didn't really care, it was such an amazing flight. I can't wait to do it again!
