The following changes were implemented for this season:
A flight entry period is imposed to stop pilots from gaining a competitive advantage by hoarding their flights, something which has been done in the past. But recent experience has shown that late entries are due to more mundane reasons like forgetting, going on holiday, struggling to download a flight etc. So we have increased the two-week period to four weeks to make life easier for pilots and reduce our workload.
The criteria by which a pilot is identified (their name and gender) has been included and follows FAI rules. Any changes can only be made for the entire XC year, which is a limitation of our software system.
An attempt to make the declaration process easier by allowing the use of C-records in the IGC file, something the gliding community has done for years. This is very much an experiment this year. In addition we are trying to automate the declaration process using a web-based SMS service.
