First time write up: we got to Mere fairly early, small thermals already at work. After about an hour on the hill we caught a fairly weak early thermal off of the right hand spur. Base was still fairly low, but tricky to get too. After a short while wondering if I should head back to the hill, we finally caught a climb to base and pushed on to Frome. Heading down over Bradford on avon, myself and I believe Ollie were about 200ft off the deck, we head for a busy housing development site, with freshly plowed fields behind. It paid off at the very last moment, and I caught a climb back to base. Solo from here on, past castle Combe during the easiest part of the day, I noticed that there was a lot more west at base than I was expecting, so I made the decision to abandon my 80k goal at Gloucester, push East of Colerne ATZ and go for straight distance. After a couple of tricky climbs around Stroud (just sticking with weak lift saved me here) I went on glide toward cheltenham. Gloucester ILS approach, I was 90% sure there was no issue with flying over it, but I double checked with a coach via telegram just to be sure (thanks Nik). I crossed it with about 400ft to spare. Sadly at this point I was let down by some promising looking clouds, and Cleeve hills rocks were my last chance at a climb. Sadly it didn't work out, and by this point the bowl was preventing me from stomping bar and heading for 100, so I but it down safe instead of trying to riskily skirt round it. Great flight!
