Early start, on the hill for 9.30 looking promising. Launched with a small gaggle of very high level pilots. A scratchy start including a quick stop at long knoll and then plain sailing until the M4. Other pilots in the gaggle had a goal set North East of Birmingham airspace, but after nearing the first turnpoint I believed there to be much more East in the wind so I reverted to my original plan of staying west of Birmingham airpsace. During the flight I frequently flew too fast and too low, twice having to low save at very uncomfortable levels. Approaching Gloucester I was notified that there was an incident at the hill I had departed and I was reminded of the dangerous conditions I was flying in. This coupled with dealing with Gloucester Airspace put me in a bad position, and with no better pilots to pimp off of, I lost my cool and failed to find any more lift. The day definitely could have easily delivered 150+km. Still a good flight but of course overshadowed by some very sad news. Many thanks to a local microlight pilot and Mike H for the retrieve.
