Having just returned from Peru 3 days ago with my entire paragliding kit (plus clothes etc) lost by the airline on the the flight out (now presumed stolen in Mexico City airport), I cobbled together some old gear - old harness, very old and too small reserve, dodgy vario gps with no sound, climbing helmet and alpaca gloves from Peru (and my other wing, luckily I had 2) and headed to the Mynd.
Lot's of people were holding back from flying but eventually a few of us took off and conditions were very nice and I soon got away - so nice to thermal in total silence (during the entire flight there was not a single beep) and flying without vario sound is something I intend to continue from now on.
I got low near Clee Hill but it never felt like I was going down and I was soon back up high. I could see that I would have to clear the Wyre forest to continue my flight and being paranoid about tree landing my only remaining wing made some silly errors - I left my last climb far too early (hoping for a climb nearer the forest) and as I got over the forest was not sure I would clear it, as there were areas of strong sink around, so ended up landing this side of them.
Bit disappointed not to have got further but glad that I still had a wing to fly next time, and enjoyed a lovely flight in lovely conditions, entirely silent and alone. Just ordered a new helmet, new reserve and maillon all on the credit card: -(
