BP Cup Pennines Task 3.
Both rewarding and frustrating flight climbing out straight after take off in the first gaggle until glider after glider, seemed to do half a turn and was 50-100ft higher, that seemed to be the flavour of the day. It seemed I fell out of the bottom of the thermal so tried to head back to the front of the hill but I was getting drilled. Now the frustrating bit was watching the 1st gaggle set on their way and the 2nd gaggle forming over launch, which I couldn't get back to.
I had no option but to go with what I had and it wasn't a lot. Got to Fair Snape fell and to soared a little while watching now the 2nd gaggle glide over high above me. Got to the "007 Fell", had to soar a lot, got to Thorncrag and was no higher than 6" from the top of the moor edging forward to where it dropped off, just scraped over the edge, felt like an age soaring below hill top height, only consolation was a mate joined me and was also stuck too; -). Finally got a ratty strong climb out before I got to enjoy a pleasant but not lifty enough glide to just north of Kirby Lonsdale. Further than I made this time last year but 7Km short of goal.
If I knew I would get so far I might not have been so stressed when I nearly bombed at the back of the moor. The glide at base more than made up for the struggle.
